I make these all the time for my grandsons. This is one of their favorites!
One likes it with french bread, while the other likes it with Brioche (egg bread).
Make sure you can buy the loaf whole so that you can slice them yourself.
You’ll want to slice them 3/4″ thick.
This will turn a loaf of bread into French Toast.
3 large eggs, room temperature
1/8 cup whipping cream
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 cup powdered sugar (as a garnish)
1 Large skillet with:
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 Tablespoon butter
Set to medium/high temperature
Take a loaf of Brioche bread and slice it into 3/4″ thick pieces.
Beat the eggs with a fork. Add the cream, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Place it in a shallow pie dish. Use tongs to dip the slices into the egg and then place in skillet. Do not crowd the bread. Make sure there is enough room for the oil and butter to circulate.
Cook on one side for about two minutes or so. Check it carefully to see that it is nice and golden on one side. If it is, turn it over and cool until the other side is golden brown.
Stack the slices three high. Put the powdered sugar into a sieve and tap it out onto the bread.
Serve with butter (if desired), Fresh Fruit, and Maple Syrup.
